Soil Investigation Work
This category involves the ground conditions (soil investigation) at the work sites in order to help the design engineer (structural or pavement) to design appropriate solutions for ultimate support of the designed structure based on the results and findings of ground conditions.
The work is comprised of an exercise of field testing, sampling, analyses and reporting of the in-situ soil conditions.
The following can be seen as the terms of reference of the investigation:
Soil profiling and description
In-situ soil parameters, derived from DCP results
Ground water conditions
Description of the site engineering geology
Bearing capacity of the in-situ soil
Recommended founding depth for the site
Expected settlement
Laboratory testing based on representative samples taken
Classification of the materials and the suitability for use in earthworks, road works and fill.
Do the necessary inspections upon the completion of foundation excavations and sign of each when approved materials have been reached.
For the full scope of experience and expertise available at Namibia Civil Engineering Laboratory cc, detailed curriculum vitae of the managing director, Mr. Phillip Ngeno is available on request.
Prospection of Unbound Road Construction Materials
This category involves Identifies, locates, and explores candidate sites from which materials test samples, and subsequently gravel for road construction and rehabilitation is to be sourced.
Searches, locates, and visually assesses the potential best gravel deposit sites for exploration.
Effects the digging, drilling or excavation of trial pits, by mechanical or manual means, at spots so identified to facilitate visual assessment of the materials and their profiles, and the taking of test sample.
Concrete Mix Design
This category involves mix design of concrete members, pavers, bricks, curbs and other concrete structural with different strength.
To specify the mix proportions of all ingredients based on the required concrete strength.
